A party of some 78 Pink Footed Geese flew high over Mill Bank Thornhill this afternoon heading slowlly South West. This is the first skein of the Autumn /Winter over my patch.

There are still 3 Mandarin Ducks on the River Calder near the new road bridge over the Calder in Saville Town. Also nearby 3 Green Sandpipers still on Dewsbury Sewage Works along with some 68 Teal,4 Shoveller,3 Tufted Ducks and some 54 Mallard.

Also in the area around the sewage works today 7 Reed Buntings and 12 Linnets feeding on Mugwort plants(Linnets).

The immature Water Rail is showing well on the reed bed adjacent to Hotworks Mill.

The late summer build up of Common Snipe seems to have come to an end now with just 12 birds present on the sewage works today.
