Water Rails.An unexpected beneficiary from excess bird food being spilt from our bird feeders at Ossett

Whilst filling the bird feeders in the centre of Kerries Reserve at Ossett I couldnt help but notice the amount of largeish bird prints in the mud below the feeders.The mud was awash with variouse spillages from the feeders including Sunflower and other types of bird seeds. Busy day on the feeders with drop in daily temerature.Also our lonely willow Tit has found a mate at last.

Oyster Catchers return to Local Sites

2 Oyster Catchers flew on to Dewsbury Sewage Works this afternoon and immediately began their courtship display amid much noise. Jack Snipe back on Dewsbury Sewage Works this morning

2 Chiff Chaffs showing well on Kerries reserve this morning

There was 2 Chiff Chaffs near the wire fence border with Dewsbury Sewage works this morning(see photogallery).Also on the feeders 1 Great spotted woodpecker,9 Blue Tits,5 Great tits,1 Willow Tit.Generally quiet but 5 Robins,4 Wrens also on feeding area.

There are 5 chifdf Chaff present on Kerries Foods Reserve this morning(see photogallery).Also Tree Creeper,Willow Tit and 2 Goldcrests on the Reserve with 16 Long Tailed Tits.

There are now 142 Lapwings on Dewsbury sewage works.
1 little Ringed Plover on Dewsbury sewage Works.Also 2 Green Sandpiper and 2 Common Snipe. 3 new broods of Moorhen(making 7 broods this year)No sign of Cuckoos which appear to have moved on. 2 Oyster Catchers on filter beds.

4 Wigeon feeding on river bank near new road bridge on Dewsbury Sewage Works.A Green Sandpiper is on the river bank near Hotworks Mill.Otherwise as yesterday.Very few Pied Wagtails due to maintenance work being carried out on the Filter beds.2 Kingfishers on the calder between Healy Road and Hotworks Mill.6 Snipe on the Sewage works and a party of 6 Reed Buntings in the largest of the Phragmitese beds.A single Kestrel was hovering on the works.
Nearby on Kerries reserve.1 Chiff Chaff in the large hedge.2 Great spotted woodpeckers chasing each other in the central area and single male Sparrow Hawk from the willow plantation across the river.
