A very vocal Cuckoo was in full calling mode in a garden opositte the Black Horse Pub in Thornhill Edge at 04:00 yesterday.The bird stayed calling for around 20 minutes before flying off in to the woodland below.

A Female Goosander with 5 chicks was on the River Calder near Healy Road Ossett this morning.The bird coasted around the Sand martin colony site before disapearing towards Horbury bridge.

There was a flock of around 150 House martins on the filter beds on Dewsbury Sewage Works late this afternoon.a passage of Common Swifts was moving Westerly at the rate of about 150 per hour from about 16:00 hours with increasing heavy cloud.Otherwise very quiet on my patch today.

Heavy cloud and generally overcast conditions this morning made it an ideal situation for Swift movemenrts moving slowly but steadily in to a light to moderate North Westerly wind.Abouit 350 to 400 Swifts were hawking over the compost heaps around 08:45 this morning with around 45 House...

A Common Buzzard was flushed from a typical nest site this afteroon only about a stones throw away from Dewsbury Town Centre

Reed Warblers are continuing to increase from last year with this afternoon 5 singing males from the 2 main beds of Phragmitese at the Hotworks Mill end of the works. Also there are now 5 singing male Sedge warblers in the surrounding rough grass adjacent to the Phragmitese.

Up to 84 Swallows were feeding on the ground at Dewsbury Sewage Works this morning
Heavy rain caused Swallows to abandon their flight and seek their food on the ground on the cfilter beds at Dewsbury sewage works this morning.
