1700 House martins in the valley ths morning.Quite a sight.

With fresh south westerly winds and occassional showers this morning there was very impressive numbers of Hirrundines moving up the valley between Healy Road Ossett and Earlsheaton this morning. Outside brewers Pride public house there was easily 500 House Martins with around 180 to 200...

A trip to Thornhill Rectory Park this morning at 09:00 was at first very disapointing.The fresh South Westerly winds made birding in the park difficult at first but once i got to the central copse at the Eastern end of the park birds started to appear. There was at least 4 Chiff Chaff in the...

Chiff Chaff numbers increase suddenly in the valley this afternoon

Marsh Harrier reported over Grange Moor on Friday and Hobby at Dewsbury Sewage Works the last two days

A Cream Crowned Marsh Harrier was seen by one observer flying over Grange Moor towards Huddersfield on Friday. There are good numbers of hirrundines at Dewsbury sewage works for the last 2 days with some 300 Swallows,250 House Martins and around 140 Sand Martins and up to 8 Swifts. A Hobby...

There are now 142 Lapwings on Dewsbury sewage works.
1 little Ringed Plover on Dewsbury sewage Works.Also 2 Green Sandpiper and 2 Common Snipe. 3 new broods of Moorhen(making 7 broods this year)No sign of Cuckoos which appear to have moved on. 2 Oyster Catchers on filter beds.

4 Wigeon feeding on river bank near new road bridge on Dewsbury Sewage Works.A Green Sandpiper is on the river bank near Hotworks Mill.Otherwise as yesterday.Very few Pied Wagtails due to maintenance work being carried out on the Filter beds.2 Kingfishers on the calder between Healy Road and Hotworks Mill.6 Snipe on the Sewage works and a party of 6 Reed Buntings in the largest of the Phragmitese beds.A single Kestrel was hovering on the works.
Nearby on Kerries reserve.1 Chiff Chaff in the large hedge.2 Great spotted woodpeckers chasing each other in the central area and single male Sparrow Hawk from the willow plantation across the river.
