There are are now 10 Green Sandpipers on Dewsbury Sewage Works.These consist of 2 parties 1 of 6 and a seperate party of 4.The birds are very difficult to approach and take off immediately as one gets within 60 to 80 yards. Waders start to increase on local Sewage works

A party of 6 Green Sandpipers are now present on Dewsbury Sewage Works.Allthough conditions for waders have been very limited recently due to he dry weather patterns there are at least two beds with a good area of mud and the site now looks promising for any passing waders that are able to drop...

South Westerly winds not good for migration but local spots still worth keeping an eye on.

Cuckoo back in residence on local Sewage Works

A Cuckoo has now been present in and out of the reed beds on Dewsbury Sewage works for three days.Up to the end of June there had been 10 singing male Reed warblers on this site but recently there remained just 3 singing birds.Presumably this must mean that at least 7 birds had managed to find...

There are now 142 Lapwings on Dewsbury sewage works.
1 little Ringed Plover on Dewsbury sewage Works.Also 2 Green Sandpiper and 2 Common Snipe. 3 new broods of Moorhen(making 7 broods this year)No sign of Cuckoos which appear to have moved on. 2 Oyster Catchers on filter beds.

4 Wigeon feeding on river bank near new road bridge on Dewsbury Sewage Works.A Green Sandpiper is on the river bank near Hotworks Mill.Otherwise as yesterday.Very few Pied Wagtails due to maintenance work being carried out on the Filter beds.2 Kingfishers on the calder between Healy Road and Hotworks Mill.6 Snipe on the Sewage works and a party of 6 Reed Buntings in the largest of the Phragmitese beds.A single Kestrel was hovering on the works.
Nearby on Kerries reserve.1 Chiff Chaff in the large hedge.2 Great spotted woodpeckers chasing each other in the central area and single male Sparrow Hawk from the willow plantation across the river.
